Sauna FAQs
How many times a week should you use a sauna?

Sauna time is fantastic. And it has amazing health benefits too, including lowering stress, improving cardiovascular performance, flushing toxins from the body, inducing deeper sleep and cleansing the skin. To experience these benefits, visit the sauna at least once a week. If this is the frequency, you can pack in three sessions of sauna time. This means you spend around 10 minutes in the sauna, then step out to cool off and take a shower, and then go back for another session.

You can use a sauna three or four times during the week, with one or two sessions each. Spending 10-15 minutes in a sauna every day is a great way to stay healthy. If you’re going daily, limit your time in the sauna and stick to only one session. Avoid spending more than 30 minutes in the sauna.

How many calories are burned in a sauna?

The number of calories a person burns in a sauna depends on several factors, including their age, gender, body composition, general level of health and current weight. Depending on these factors, a sauna session of around 30 minutes can burn anywhere between 300 and 1,000 calories.

It’s not just about the calories one burns during the sauna session. Spending time in a sauna increases your metabolic rate and keeps it elevated for a few hours after the sauna session. This results in more calories burned throughout the day.

Are there benefits of using a sauna after a workout?

Spending time in a sauna is a great way to end a workout. It’s feels so relaxing because it helps to easy muscle soreness and fatigue. When you exercise, your muscles undergo very small tears, causing inflammation and muscle tightness or cramps. Spending time in a sauna increases blood circulation. The muscles receive oxygen-rich blood and their recovery process is enhanced. Heat also relieves muscle tension and joint pains.

You may have sweated during your workout. A sauna session prolongs the period in which you keep sweating, helping the body to remove toxins, alcohol, nicotine, and more.

Does sauna improve circulation?

A few minutes in the sauna every day is all it takes to significantly improve your health. You feel more relaxed and reinvigorated. This is because sauna sessions help improve blood circulation. During the sauna, your body temperature rises, causing blood vessels to dilate. The widening of the blood vessels allows more blood to flow to different parts of your body.

Receiving more oxygen-rich blood helps to relieve muscle soreness and joint pain. Athletes use saunas to aid in injury recovery. People suffering from arthritis experience better mobility and less pain. Increased blood circulation also improves your skin.
