Most of that heat that would otherwise radiate directly outward gets absorbed by 88 pounds of sauna stones instead — stones that then give it back to the room as the slow, even warmth you want from a wood-fired session. The cage is sized and styled to match the Cilindro pillar exactly, continuing the stainless steel aesthetic from stove to ceiling rather than interrupting it with a bare pipe. It also expands your stone surface: ladle water up high toward the chimney cage and you get steam from a different level than the main stone bed, which changes the character of the löyly entirely.
